Low energy? Chronic headaches?Body pains?Your immune system may have taken a big hit these last few years. In the wake of post-Covid many people are feeling the effects of long-term stress combined with prolonged physical weakness. This condition is being called “long covid” if it happens within six months of infection, and is a prevalent presentation in my clinic. These lingering symptoms can also arise after any major illness if the immune system becomes deficient.
How can you get your energy and functioning back?
All energy is produced at the cellular level. All cells need protection from damaging substances in the body called free radicals. Damage to a cell is called oxidative stress. Antioxidants strengthen cells and protect them from invasion of toxins, chemicals, viruses, and bacterias. These cells belong to the immune system, muscles, blood, nerves, and every type of cell in the body. Cell integrity and function can be improved through diet, exercise, and herbs.
Herbs That Build Energy
Schisandra Berry is a favorite of mine on the single trait that it stops night sweating. It helps regulate the hormone estrogen and reduces cortisol levels. That combination equals restful sleep and increased energy. It is used for insomnia and menopause symptoms. It also repairs damaged liver cells and strengthens the cardiovascular system. A powerful little red berry!!
Reishi Mushroom rules supreme with its ability to regulate the immune system. It reduces inflammation in the lungs and is used to reduce the symptoms of asthma and allergies. It also targets viruses such as herpes and is proven to stop the development of abnormal cell growth. This is a supplement used for thousands of years and is rightfully referred to as the longevity mushroom. It is only one of the extensive mushroom family which will be another good read.
Chaga Mushroom is a close second, if not a tie, with the Reishi on its medicinal properties. It has the highest antioxidant content than any other food or herb studied. Its secondary affect on calming the mind gives it it’s own peaceful feel. Knowing your giving your body this level of protection creates peace of mind. It regulates blood sugar and relieves digestive discomforts. It can be added to tea, coffee, or juice to give that daily immune system boost to your day.
Finding the right combination of herbs to recover from a drawn out illness can become frustrating. There are many products with many promises. A lot of time and money can be wasted trying multiple remedies only to find none have worked. As a practitioner of Chinese medicine I work with clients daily finding them the right herbs to meet their health goal. I want to extend that service to you. Many Chinese herbs are commonly used American herbs, just with different names and applications. Many plants cross the cultural lines and are used in a multitude of medicine systems. Gather your questions and book a consult. Skip the trial and error phase and let’s find the right herb combination to start you back towards wellness sooner than later.
